I recently bought my very first set of nice scriptures. I've been using my seminary scriptures all these years and they were pretty much falling apart. I got the large size and so my old scripture tote no longer fit.
So, I thought I'd be crafty and make my own. I searched the web for ideas and patterns and found several that seemed a bit more complicated than I would have liked. I finally decided to try one anyway and was impatient to get started, so I rushed home from work one day to get to the fabric store before they closed. I got there only 15 min. before closing and realized there was no way I could choose fabrics that fast and left disappointed to have to come back later.
In the same shopping center is a Big Lots. I had seen this other idea to use placemats (yes, placemats!) and so on a whim decided to go in and just see what they had. The pickings were pretty slim, but I did find these brown and black simple ones for only $1.50 each and decided to go with the whim and buy a couple. Further down the row of stores my next stop was Michaels to find some ribbon. The options for grosgrain ribbon that was more than just a solid color and the correct widths were also pretty slim pickings. So, I opted for these animal prints which aren't normally my style.
And then.... Wa La!! This is what I ended up with. I think they're pretty darn cute and I love them!! I'm so glad I didn't end up following the original pattern I was going to try.
